County Training Leading Towards Certification to Teach English Learners

The San Luis Obispo County Office of Education was approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing to offer SB 395 training

SB 395 SDAIE and ELD Institute for Single Subject Teachers and Multiple Subject Teachers

Description: This six-part Institute provides participating teachers with knowledge and systematic instructional strategies designed to make grade level or advanced curriculum content comprehensible to English learners with intermediate language proficiency. It also provides participating teachers with knowledge and instructional strategies designed to promote the acquisition of English by students whose primary language is other than English.

Who should attend?

  • Teachers holding single subject credentials interested in learning more about ELD and SDAIE and how to better serve English Learners.
  • Single Subject permanent teachers as of 1/1/99 who would like to complete SB 395 training in order to receive authorization to serves English learners.
  • Multiple Subject permanent teachers as of 1/1/99 who have nine years' teaching experience and would like to receive authorization for teaching ELD and SDAIE.
45 hours of combined ELD/SDAIE Professional Development

The SB 395 Institute is designed to fulfill the 45-hour requirement of combined ELD/SDAIE training. In order to receive SB 395 authorization to teach English Learners through SLOCOE, teachers MUST complete all 45 hours of the institute and formative and summative assessment requirements of the academy.

The next SB 395 Training will take place on August 7, 8, & 9, 2007. The follow-up sessions will be throughout September and October. Please contact Teresa Vega-Iñiguez for more details.

Single Subject Permanent status as of 01/01/99 No specific experience requirement 45 hours of training covering a combination of SDAIE methods and ELD instruction.
