San Luis Obispo County Early Care and Education Planning Council

The San Luis Obispo County Early Care and Education Planning Council serves as an advisory body to the County Board of Supervisors and County Superintendent of Schools. In partnership with families and the community, the Council plans for and promotes high-quality, accessible early care and education services for all children from birth through age 12.

The Council is dedicated to strengthening a comprehensive child care system that meets the diverse needs of families throughout San Luis Obispo County. We collaborate with families, child care providers, educators, employers, community partners, and policymakers to support children’s healthy development and help every child thrive.

The Council also recognizes child care as essential community infrastructure and a critical economic development strategy. A strong child care system enables parents and caregivers to participate in the workforce, supports local employers, creates and sustains small businesses, and strengthens the early care and education workforce. Through planning, advocacy, partnerships, and strategic investment, the Council works to build a child care system that benefits children, families, businesses, and the economic vitality of our entire county.

2025–2026 Year in Review

Throughout 2025–2026, the Council continued to turn this shared vision into action through countywide planning, workforce development, quality-improvement initiatives, community partnerships, resource investments, and advocacy. Explore our 2025–2026 Year in Review to learn more about the Council’s activities, accomplishments, and collective impact across San Luis Obispo County.
